granted, it IS possibly to make an OO application too slow by using OO, so to speak, but that’s QUITE abit larger applications than you write. Try redesigning.

not every small thing is an object just because you can present it as one. this is a mistake a lot of people make when moving to OO languages from procedural ones.

my database tables are usually encapsulated into objects because it just makes more sense that way, but the application flow is strictly procedural (as it usually is, by nature).

KairuMaiku, well, i use javascript objects (instantiated using prototypes) together with php objects on the server side. getting the page displayed is done using client side methods (in the sense that the client side logic is handled by JS and not php or some templating engine). i find it quite disgusting to use php to design the layout of a page or stick content into it. but that’s just me and not every project can work that way (i’m glad the current one i’m working on is, however).

Until you realize that JS has awful browser compatibility.

I don’t really have a problem using JS at all, DEPENDING on the application it’s being used for. Right now I’m using extjs on my high school football site. Most of the visitors will be aged 14-18. You take into the consideration of likelihood for JS to be enabled in their browsers and it makes sense to use it. JS can only be as awesome as the support in the user’s browser for it.,

KairuMaiku, browser incompatibilities disappear once you get familiar with some framework. besides, CSS is the main problem anyways. javascript is quite consistent across browsers (most of it, anyways). the DOM can be a problem sometimes, but you can get most things done. well, my boss worries about margins and cost and all that yappy crap. i write code and i make sure it’s damn good too.

random off-topic musing: if hacking an installer and forging its md5 sum is hard, how difficult would it be to forge something that evades both md5 and sha1 checks?

deadroot, in the installer? probably trivial if you looked through the assembly and found where the call was. if( md5() and sha1() ) { } else {} you just need to skip the conditional. The hard part is locating that position in the code. speaking strictly academically, not that I condone hacking commercial software

superficially, it looks like you have permissions problems specifically, your webserver does not have permissions to write to the folder containing your templates you can either change the permissions. or. do what it says.

Ah. Right, sorry. Anyway, the problem I am having is that when I try to delete a user it takes me to a “page not found”. I go into user management and then select the user. Then I select the delete user and all posts. It takes me to the confirm page but after I say yes it takes me to the “page not found” Any ideas? Also, I get the same message when I try to delete the group I created.

The only file permissions I changed was the config.php. And as far as all of the files, the only folder that has been removed post install was the install folder.

Something I did do, to test this problem. I created a seperate upload location, a new database and a new install. after that I registered a new member on the new db and tried to delete it using the admin login. I received the same error message.

Well, almost. If you just complement the bits, you’ll get an off-by-one error - that’s why it’s *two’s* complement, and not one’s complement. But you’re not actually touching the underlying bits. C generates code that works the same no matter what they are, though it’ll be especially efficient if they are what they appear to be, of course I rarely see one’s complement these days, but I do sometimes run into sign-magnitude, and BCD is pretty common in calculators (and will remain so) PCs are two’s complement for efficiency reasons, mostly Also, wikipedia is handy. i have an application where a client streams data over tcp to a server, line-by-line, and the server never writes anything back. now if the server crashes and reboots, the client never knows that the connection is stale, but if it tries to send another line of data there is no error until the following write

it should eventually learn of it, and write/send will communicate that fact to the client. buffers. better put an ack into your protocol if you must know if a line was received.

exactly. STOP THINKING TCP IS APPLICATION. there is no ack from the far end to tell your end that the write was read. they are completely disconnected. you write into a buffer, if that succeeds write returns. no way the return value can be amended later to show that the remote never got the line.
